Dunn School's Green Group Climate Awareness Week: 21-25 September 2020

Amidst a year dominated by the pandemic, the Dunn School’s Green Group emerged as a beacon of hope, championing sustainability through their Climate Awareness Week held from 21st to 25th September 2020.
This dedicated week aimed to nurture sustainable attitudes, transform daily habits, and enlighten both staff and students about innovative eco-friendly tools and practices. The week was strategically aligned with the prominent Climate Week NYC, where global leaders convened to discuss future-forward climate action plans. Additionally, several global and national awareness days during the week reinforced its primary themes.

Daily Emails: These covered a range of topics, from climate awareness in alignment with Zero Emissions Day, transport saluting World Car-Free Day, to insights on recycling, energy, food consciousness, and sustainable lab practices.

Engaging Quiz: Participants had a chance to win beautiful potted plants and sustainable goodies.

Supplier Engagement: Our supporting suppliers not only donated merchandise but also emphasized their sustainability initiatives.

Informative Slides: The café area displayed visuals about lab carbon reduction, offering practical insights.
Friday was dedicated to the promotion of LEAF – the Lab Efficiency Assessment Framework. Developed by UCL, this lab sustainability accreditation scheme, which was trialed in the Dunn School, saw an overwhelming endorsement from our community. A survey in July 2020 revealed that 90% of respondents were interested in LEAF, leading the Green Group to push for its department-wide adoption. An "opt-out" model was presented to the departmental committee in October, following the success of the week.

This week was a testament to the Green Group's commitment to creating a more sustainable future for all. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported these efforts!
