Uniting for Sustainability: The Dunn School Green Group's Collaborative Vision

Embark on a collective journey toward a sustainable future with the Dunn School Green Group. United by a commitment to the environment, we harness the power of collaboration and shared knowledge. Our expansive network includes departments, colleges, and research institutes, transcending the confines of our university to foster a culture of sustainability.

Academic Partnerships: We've forged alliances with various departments, such as  Biology department, Ineos Oxford Institute for Antimicrobial Research Department of Earth SciencesBiochemistryMRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, The Jenner Institute, and The Department of Chemistry. These partnerships fuel innovative sustainability practices and shared objectives, enriching our initiatives with a variety of perspectives and expertise.

College Collaborations: Our partnerships extend to Linacre CollegeSt Antony’s CollegeSt Cross College,  Exeter College, Lincoln College, and Corpus Christi College. Together, we weave a tapestry of sustainable strategies and ideas that benefit the entire academic community.

University-Wide Networking: Our collaboration with the University of Oxford Sustainability team synchronizes our efforts across the university's vast academic landscape, amplifying our impact.

Beyond Oxford University: Our vision extends beyond local confines, reaching into a broader sphere of influence and impact.

In partnership with Oxford Brookes University, we've embarked on innovative initiatives like a student-led waste management research project. Additionally, the Dunn School Green Group initiated a collaborative food rescue program, involving the University of Oxford's departments, colleges, Oxford Brookes University, Marston Community Gardening, Reading community and the Oxford Hindu Temple & Community Centre Project. This multifaceted initiative is aimed at reducing supermarket waste and exemplifies our commitment to practical, hands-on sustainability solutions, fostering community-wide participation and impact.

Our collaboration with renowned cell biologist Jeroen Dobbelaere, a vanguard in the sustainability movement within academia, is particularly inspiring. With over two decades of experience at prestigious institutions like UGent, ETH Zürich, Cambridge University, and the University of Vienna, Jeroen brings a wealth of knowledge and an infectious zeal for environmental stewardship. His leadership in the grassroots group Climate@MaxPerutzLabs in Vienna and his current role as a sustainability manager at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) exemplify his proactive approach and commitment to embedding sustainable practices in academic settings.

Similarly, our work with Martin Farley, a pioneering figure in laboratory sustainability, significantly advances our mission. Now serving as the UKRI Associate Director of Environmental Sustainability Programmes and Director at Green Lab Associates, in addition to being a Fellow of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (FIEMA), Martin's influence spans globally. His founding of the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF) at University College London and roles at Sustainable UCL and King’s College London exemplify his revolutionary approach to lab sustainability. His innovative strategies and dedication to combating "greenwashing" have redefined sustainable practices in scientific research, making an indelible mark on the field.

At the heart of our mission are the principles of idea-sharing, resource pooling, and ambition alignment. Each partnership, shared idea, and joint initiative propels us closer to our collective vision of a sustainable future. Join us in this vital endeavor.
