Green Action Week 2024 at Dunn School: Embracing Sustainability Together

In February 2024, the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology at the University of Oxford hosted its Green Action Week, a testament to the institution's commitment to environmental sustainability. From the 19th to the 23rd of February, the event showcased a series of initiatives aimed at promoting an eco-friendly culture within and beyond the campus. The week commenced with the Bike Doctor clinic, offering free bike repairs and symbolically installing the Green Group flag, reflecting the school's green ethos. The Dunn School was alive with various eco-conscious activities such as a clothes swap, a bake sale with homemade goods, and a plant and seed exchange, all made possible through collaborations with local businesses and sustainable suppliers, reinforcing the push towards a circular economy. The event was further highlighted by engaging talks in the EPA seminar room, where experts like Danielle Stephens from RecycleLab and Mary Mawhinney and Elliot Possnett from Oxford Mutual Aid shared insights on plastic waste management and the impact of food waste, attracting broad community interest. Additionally, guided tours led by Clemence Levet and Anne Hedegaard allowed attendees to explore the school's sustainability practices, encouraging the adoption of eco-friendly habits. The week ended on a high note with a significant donation to Oxford Mutual Aid, underscoring the synergy between community support and environmental care. Saroj Saurya, the Green Group chair, thanked all participants and sponsors, emphasizing the collective achievement. Motivated by the event's success, the Dunn School is eager to continue its journey towards sustainability, fostering a shared commitment to a greener future.
