Dunn School Green Group Triumphs as Joint Winners of Prestigious High Sheriff's Climate Action Heroes Award

Dunn School Green Group has been recognized as joint winners of the esteemed High Sheriff's Climate Action Heroes Awards in the business/public sector category. The announcement was made at a grand ceremony held at the Oxford Trust’s Wood Centre for Innovation in Headington Quarry, Oxford on Monday 21 February 2022.

This award is a testament to the relentless efforts and dedication of everyone involved. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the present and past members of the Green Group, all the Dunn School labs, Principal Investigators, facilities, workshop, IT, stores, washing up team, and all the members of the Dunn School, University of Oxford sustainability team. A special mention to Martin Farley’s LEAF accreditation scheme for their invaluable contribution. Without the collective effort of all these individuals and teams, we would not have been able to achieve this significant milestone.

As a voluntary group of environmental activists from across the department, we have been instrumental in catalysing environmental sustainability in numerous areas. Our initiatives range from reducing reliance on single-use lab plastics, promoting equipment energy savings, introducing lab glove recycling and food waste collections, to lobbying suppliers to improve their sustainability credentials.

The competition was intense, with a total of 28 nominations received. The judges evaluated each nomination based on their impact on reducing carbon emissions, sustainability, potential for scaling up, innovation, engagement, and legacy before choosing the winners.

We are proud of our achievements and remain committed to our mission of promoting environmental sustainability. This award fuels our determination to continue our work, and we look forward to making even greater strides in the future.
