Eco-Visionaries: The Birth of Dunn School's Green Brigade
In January 2020, a transformative initiative took root within the Dunn School: the birth of the Dunn School Green Group. Spearheaded by Professor Anton van der Merwe, the group began its journey with ten enthusiastic and dedicated members: Philip Cobden, Sophia Fochler, Ulrike Gruneberg, Lilli Hahn, William James, Iona Manley, Saroj Saurya, Wayne Swan, Anton himself, and Jo Peel. Their collective vision was to foster an eco-conscious culture in the department.
Their first in-person meeting was held on 3rd March 2020. This gathering laid the foundation for their vision and activities. Meticulous minutes were taken, documenting every discussion point and decision to ensure transparency. However, as the world faced unforeseen circumstances and rapidly shifted to online platforms, the group's zeal remained unwavering. Adapting swiftly, members continued to meet 3-4 times annually via virtual platforms, ensuring their mission stayed on track.
To amplify their message and initiatives, a range of communication tools were utilized, including a Twitter account (@Dunn_GoGreen), notice board, a flag and dedicated green group mailing list. Armed with passion and a clear vision, the group fervently works to heighten environmental awareness and inspire sustainable actions, not only within the institution but also in the wider community.
