Elevating Biodiversity: Green Group's Wildflower Patch Initiative Near OMPI
The Green Group, in a collaborative endeavor with the Parks Department, is excited to introduce the Wildflower Patch Initiative. Situated near the OMPI building, this project is dedicated to nurturing a diverse and colorful wildflower area, enhancing both the local ecosystem and the aesthetic beauty of our surroundings.
Initiated in April 2023 with the support of funding from the Green Group's budget, the Wildflower Patch Initiative began with the goal of planting native wildflowers. By doing so, we're not only beautifying the landscape but also providing vital support to local wildlife, including essential pollinators like bees, butterflies, and birds. This initiative aligns perfectly with our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and biodiversity.
In May 2024, volunteers from Dunn School helped re-seed the wildflower patch. Seeds and gardening tools were provided by the University of Oxford sustainability team. The patch will feature planters made from recycled lab plastic around the wildflower area, which will have herbs growing in them. The entire patch and planters will be maintained by Dunn School gardening club members and the University Parks department.
The whole patch is now part of the Dunn School Green Group initiative. For additional information or to participate in this enriching project, we encourage you to connect with Dunn School Green Group members. The Wildflower Patch Initiative represents just one of the many ways we at the Dunn School are working to foster an appreciation for and a commitment to our natural world.
