Legacy of the Dunn School Sharing Table: Advancing Sustainability Through Community Collaboration

At the Dunn School, University of Oxford, we proudly continue our legacy of sharing and eco-responsibility through the newly established Eco Zone, an evolution of the Sharing Table Initiative. Previously located in the Combination Room, this initiative now thrives in its new home at Room 311.30.33, near the EPA round room. The Eco Zone transforms the original concept into a dedicated space for community-driven recycling and repurposing, further advancing waste reduction and sustainability.

The Eco Zone carries forward the spirit of the Sharing Table, offering a place where students and staff can contribute or take items they no longer need. From surplus food such as fruits, vegetables, and bakery goods to clothing, plants, paints, household essentials, and more, the Eco Zone embraces the same wide array of contributions that have been central to this initiative.

Much like the Sharing Table, the Eco Zone is about more than just waste reduction—it’s a testament to resourcefulness, conscious consumption, and the power of community. This new space reinforces our commitment to a culture of sharing, sustainability, and interconnected well-being.

Whether it’s surplus garden produce, untouched food from gatherings, or items destined for landfill, the Eco Zone provides a sustainable alternative. It invites all members of the Dunn School to participate in fostering a circular economy by giving items a second life.

Let the Eco Zone be your first thought for surplus items. Each small act of sharing contributes to a collective effort towards sustainability, leaving a profound impact on our community and the environment. Together, we continue to champion sustainable living and communal harmony in a new and innovative way.
