UniGreen & WARPit Schemes: Resale of Unused Items
The Green Group, in association with the Dunn School workshop, is proud to participate in the UniGreen and WARPit Schemes.
UniGreen Scheme focuses on the collection and resale of used items, promoting a circular economy within our department and contributing to significant environmental savings. Since the scheme's inception, we've collected a total of 233 items from Pathology, weighing a hefty 5,892kg. But the impact doesn't stop there. We've successfully sold and repurposed 79 of those items, equating to 3,405kg of equipment given a second life. The environmental benefits of this initiative are remarkable. By reusing these 3,405kg of equipment, we've managed to save 12,122kg of CO2 emissions compared to recycling. To put this into perspective, that's roughly equivalent to removing 5.5 cars from the road for an entire year! Additionally, the UniGreen Scheme has also proven financially beneficial. Through the resale of these items, we've managed to return approximately £4,000 to the department, illustrating that sustainability and financial prudence can indeed go hand in hand. The UniGreen Scheme is a powerful testament to the positive impact that a commitment to sustainability can have on our environment and our budget. We look forward to continuing to participate in this program and finding new ways to make the Dunn School a more sustainable place.
WARPit is a revolutionary online marketplace tailored for the University community, facilitating the legal and hassle-free redistribution of resources. Its primary aim is to connect staff members looking to dispose of items with those in need of them, effectively reducing procurement expenses and waste disposal costs. The University of Oxford Environmental Sustainability team oversees the administration of the WARPit scheme, ensuring its smooth operation across all departments and colleges. While WARPit does not handle the logistics of item collection or delivery, users can liaise with their respective Building Manager or FM Manager for such arrangements. Embracing sustainability is a collective effort, and small initiatives like signing up to WARPit can make a significant difference in fostering a sustainable culture within departments. For a comprehensive understanding of the platform's terms and conditions, prospective users are encouraged to visit WARPit official site.
