Dunn School Green Group Participates in Oxfordshire's Great Big Green Week 2021
From September 18th to 26th, 2021, the Oxfordshire Great Big Green Week showcased a series of events with the dual aim of inspiring action against the climate crisis and promoting environmental protection. This week-long initiative, acting as a precursor to the United Nations ‘COP26’ Climate Conference, saw the enthusiastic participation of the Dunn School Green Group.
Spanning over 75 events throughout the county, attendees were treated to a diverse palette of activities. From immersive hands-on workshops, thought-provoking discussions, children's events, and captivating art displays to even a night of comedy, there was something for everyone. The Green Week not only highlighted the grave challenges our planet is facing but also celebrated the plethora of solutions and initiatives taking root both locally and internationally.
In testament to its steadfast commitment to environmental solutions, the Dunn School Green Group collaborated with various other organizations, amplifying the collective call for sustainability and urgent action. Here's a brief look into the Green Group's active role during the Oxfordshire Great Big Green Week:
Walk for Life on Earth: Members embarked on a vibrant, family-friendly procession that began at the Oxford train station and ended at Broad St. Participants, flaunting colorful banners and led by captivating puppets symbolizing endangered species, voiced their shared commitment to environmental preservation.
Oxfordshire Great Big Green Week Launch: At the official Broad St. launch event, Green Group members indulged in a festive atmosphere filled with music, theatre, speeches, and culinary challenges—immersing attendees in Oxfordshire's green initiatives.
Ready, Steady, Cookup!: This culinary challenge showcased the essence of locally-sourced ingredients and sustainable cooking.
Climate Conversations Workshop: An insightful session at The Old Fire Station where members delved into the power of interpersonal conversations in climate change advocacy.
"Bike Doctor" Bicycle Repair Service: Organized in association with Bainton Bikes and the University of Oxford Sustainability Team, this event at Dunn School highlighted the importance of sustainable transportation.
Marston Community Eco Market: Our members played a key role in organizing this sustainable market at the Marston Eco Hub, emphasizing eco-friendly practices and fostering community engagement.
Bike Doctor in Marston: Demonstrating their continuous support for green transportation, Green Group members spearheaded the organization of this event in Marston.
Marston Wombles Litter-picking: Advocating cleanliness and environmental responsibility, the group collaborated with the Marston community Eco group for a litter-pick in Marston.
Tap Social Brewery: An enjoyable blend of advocacy and fun unfolded at the brewery. Complete with a culinary contest, music, and locally brewed beer, attendees were also invited to partake in a unique vegetable-based cake competition.
In a symbolic gesture of its commitment, the Dunn School Green Group flag was hoisted atop the main Dunn School building during this memorable week.
