Dunn School's Green Revolution: Celebrating Sustainability During The Great Big Green Week, 24th September - 2nd October 2022
In a collaborative effort with allies across the nation, the Dunn School Green Group took the initiative to host the "The Great Big Green Week," a vibrant celebration emphasizing activism on climate change and biodiversity. The week was packed with a myriad of activities aimed at promoting environmental consciousness at the Dunn School. Highlights included the "Bike Doctor Special," offering bike repairs and sales of refurbished bikes and accessories. The Dunn School PDA, in partnership with the Green Group, organized a "Clothes Swap" event, encouraging sustainable fashion choices. Charlotte Melia, our Electron Microscopy Support Scientist, spearheaded a "Vegetarian/Vegan Catering Survey" in collaboration with the Green Group, complemented by the Dunn School café showcasing vegan and vegetarian delicacies. The "Plant Swap" event, orchestrated by the Dunn School Admin in tandem with the Green Group, was a hit, as was the "Suppliers' Green Exhibition" curated by the Dunn School Stores. Throughout the week, the Green Group's flag flew high, symbolizing our unwavering commitment to a sustainable future. Other notable events included energy conservation awareness sessions. Moreover, our Green Group members actively engaged in various environmental activities, from talks and rallies to litter picking across different locations around Oxfordshire. Adding to our sustainability efforts, we received generous donations of Pokito collapsible mugs from our suppliers Gilson, NEB, Starlab, VWR, Appleton Woods, Merk, and Greiner Bio. These mugs were distributed to the organizers of the big green week, as well as to the Admin, Reception, Stores, washing up, Finance, IT, Workshop, Facility managers, PI’s, new Dunn School DPhil students, and Green Group members. This initiative aims to significantly reduce the use of disposable cardboard and plastic mugs within the Dunn School community, furthering our commitment to environmental sustainability.
