Waste Management Awareness Stall with Arya Tiwari

On Tuesday, 16th May 2023, the Dunn School Green Group hosted an informative event aimed at promoting better waste management practices within our community. The event was led by our summer work experience, Ms Arya Tiwari, an Environmental Impact Assessment & Management student from Oxford Brookes University.

Arya set up an information stall in the Dunn School Café during lunchtime, serving as a point of contact for any queries regarding appropriate waste disposal. The stall was not just an information hub, but also a discreet observational point to understand the waste disposal habits within our community.

During the one-hour observational period, Arya made some intriguing findings. She noted that 50% of individuals correctly sorted their waste into the appropriate bins. Interestingly, her presence seemed to encourage more cautious behaviour, with some individuals checking the signage before segregating their waste. This observation suggests a promising awareness and willingness to comply with waste management guidelines within our community.

However, the findings also highlighted areas for improvement. As a department committed to environmental sustainability, it's crucial that we strive for better waste disposal practices. While the results showed positive tendencies, they also underscored the need for continued effort and education in waste management.

We encourage everyone to be mindful of their waste disposal habits and to seek clarification when unsure about waste segregation. We also welcome suggestions on how we can further promote and facilitate effective waste disposal within our department.

We extend our gratitude to Arya for her insightful work and to everyone who engaged with the stall. Let's continue to strive towards making our department a leader in waste management and environmental responsibility. Together, we can make a difference.
