Our LEAF Award Achievements: Commitment to Sustainable Research Practices

As part of our ongoing dedication to environmental sustainability, the Dunn School Green Group is proud to promote the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF) across our labs. LEAF, backed by the UK Reproducibility Network (UKRN), encourages lab users to adopt eco-friendly changes in critical areas such as water consumption, energy use, and the reduction of single-use plastics. By choosing to operate under the LEAF, our labs contribute to the wider goal of sustainable, high-quality research.

Our enthusiastic participation in LEAF reflects our commitment to sustainable action: out of 35 labs within the Dunn School, an impressive 34 have registered with the LEAF scheme, encompassing both our washing and workshop facilities. These labs have gone above and beyond, self-assessing their practices and striving to achieve Bronze, Silver, or Gold LEAF awards.

The savings are significant - a LEAF lab can save on average £3,700 and cut down approximately 3 tonnes of CO2e annually. On a university-wide scale, participation can help us reach our ambitious goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2035.

We're proud to highlight our labs that have been recognized for their outstanding commitment to sustainability:
